In the old Dutch settlement of Tarry Town existed a glen called Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod Crane, a schoolmaster from Connecticut came in 1790 and fell for Katrina Van Tassel. But Ichabod wasn't the only one who yearned for the young miss, there was another known as Abraham Van Brunt, also called Brom Bones. The two men tried to compete for the eighteen year old woman, who was the only child of the wealthy farmer known as Baltus Van Tassel.
Ichabod was invited to the young miss' home for a party one Autumn night and when he left he was chased by the Headless Horseman atop his blackhorse. The Horseman was said to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper that had his head shot off by a stray cannonball in a battle during the American Revolutionary War. The trooper rode forth to the scene of the of battle in a nightly quest for his head. After the chase, Ichabod vanished from Sleepy Hollow, leaving Abraham to marry young Katrina.
